Tempest is part of a series of collaborative expressive new landscape paintings, depicting a sea of troubled waters and a cloudy sky. These hybrid works depicted are earth views that have been created through an artificial intelligence tool, designed and “trained” by the artist in collaboration with a team of scientists at the MIT artificial intelligence laboratory, then reinterpreted by the artist in a continuing cycle. Blurring notions of authorship, the artist engages in this process of translation through technology allowing for a poetic reflection on earth and sea landscapes, blurriness and the future.
