TAKIS, Gong, 1984 Painted iron, 387cm x 178cm, Courtesy of Takis Foundation – Research Center for the Art and the Sciences (KETE), Greece

In the mid-1950s’ Takis turned to the forces of nature and the energy of magnetic fields, which formed the core of his artistic research.  These fields have occupied philosophers and scientists uninterruptedly since antiquity and formed Taki’s personal perception of the world. His relationship with music and sounds is visible throughout his oeuvre, as the Gong illustrates Takis’s connection to science, musicality, sounds and movement. Visitors are able to hear and reproduce the sound used to signal the beginning of the theatrical performances allowing audiences to engage actively with the work of the pioneering artist.
