FAITAKIS Stelios, Mandala 2  (Industry), 2020, mixed media on canvas, 192 Χ 220 cm, Courtesy of the Artist

The mandala is a circular pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; it represents both the personal as the point of departure, and the universal, the endless extension of the cosmos and vice versa. Originally meant to represent wholeness and a model for the organizational structure of life itself, a cosmic diagram that shows the relation to the infinite and the world that extends beyond and within various minds and bodies. The artist’s work is based on the Cretan School of Byzantine Iconography, to explore the here and now, of the industrial and urban setting and in depicting a time-microcosm.
