The Gift of Automation is a series of sculptural installations that explore the historical development and modern manifestations of automation, drawing morphological and conceptual elements from the descriptions of ancient automata. Utilizing open source online retrieved models and three-dimensional recordings of public sculptures from the urban area of Athens, the project is a set of hybrid sculptural platforms. As narrative  “scenes” , these sculptural assemblies compose digital information and material forms derived from computer-controlled techniques to speak of the timeless demand of automation as a common fantasy of human progress, a technological desire and a threat to the evolution of relationships, nature and work, human time and life.
