PAPADOPOULOS Nikos, Zen Garden, 2013, Installation cotton on sun dried paper in gravel shape. approx. 36 m2, Courtesy of the artist

Nikos Papadopoulos’work based on Chinese monastic rock gardens, explores the poetic geometries of space, time, form and the continuous animating of the geographies of form and change through the metaphor of a garden. The cotton papers and the meditative and ritualistic process of making them, which were recycled, some of which were colored, are more reminiscent of the pebbles of a Greek shoreline than to the whitish homogeneity of the rock gardens, suggesting a connection between the different cultures.  If the artist’s pebbles in the first drop of water dissolve, burn in the first spark, the ephemeral element of Chinese gardens is restored.
