Samaras’s oeuvre is an exploration of the self. In this new series, the artist’s engagement with autobiographical depiction and investigation, self-portraiture and digital mirror-imaging is more evident than ever. He places himself in a microcosm of nature, Central Park becomes the space that reflects all other places. He inhabits a land of his own. The artist exposes and is exposed, and we trace the ways analogue and digital past(s) intersect. Samaras employs the computer as a tool used to dissect and delineate the self, a process that is evident in earlier works with materials such as Polaroids, pins and mirrors. The   “I” always comes first, always in a poetic manner.
